A Level Further Maths

Duration: 2 Years
Exam Board: Edexcel
Entry Requirements: At least a grade A/8-9 in Maths. Additional Maths or Further Maths studied at GCSE level is a great advantage.

To be accepted on the two-year fast track A Level or BTEC programme students must have at least 5 GCSE’s graded 5-9 or equivalent qualifications. For A Levels This must include a grade 6 or above in the subject you plan to study.

Course Overview

Further Maths can only be studied alongside A Level Maths and is available to the strongest mathematicians who are passionate about the subject and thrive on a challenge. Further Mathematics is one of the most highly respected subjects offered at A level. It is recognised by the top universities for its challenging content and is, therefore, an excellent qualification to obtain.

Year 1 & Year 2

3 Modules: Core Maths 1, Core Maths 2 and Statistic 1
3 Modules: Core Maths 3, Core Maths 4 and Mechanics 1

A Level Maths requires strong algebraic skills gained at GCSE Maths. It is a demanding course, therefore, requires dedication and commitment however it’s rewarding and enjoyable.


Further Maths is particularly popular with students going on to study a course which demands a high level of mathematics, such as Computing, Technology, Engineering and the Sciences as well as Mathematics. The skills learnt in Further Maths are also very transferable to a host of related areas of study and employment.
