To be accepted on the two-year fast track A Level or BTEC programme students must have at least 5 GCSE’s graded 5-9 or equivalent qualifications. For A Levels This must include a grade 6 or above in the subject you plan to study.
Chemistry gives you intriguing insights into the nature of matter and provides you with many opportunities to experience the satisfaction of solving problems. We have excellent laboratory facilities and equipment which will enable you to become excellent at qualitative and quantitative analysis and you will learn to synthesise organic chemicals.
Year 1 and Year 2
Topics include: the amount of a substance, kinetics, thermodynamics, equilibria, electrochemistry, acids and bases and buffers.
Topics include: group 2, group 7, periodicity, transition metal chemistry, test tube reactions of coloured ions.
Topics include: alkanes, alcohols, carbonyl compounds, aromatic compounds, NMR and IR spectroscopy, Chromatography.
You will need Chemistry for Medicine, Veterinary and Dentistry courses. Most biological, biochemical and environmental courses also require a sound knowledge of Chemistry. This subject fits well with Biology and other sciences that can lead to a vast amount of career opportunities.
